Linus Torvalds made source code freely available so people could adapt software to suit them. This is a counter to the old idea that you keep your work to your self, that would be a closed system. This is an open system. I like this pro free flowing information hence making my music free. Am sure you will have read abuot big name pop stars giving music away almost for free, which is brilliant, bet their label loves them !

So, where do you make the money ?

In the software world the product is the software, so that bit is free, but then if people want support it will cost. So in a musical context that would be the gig. The Business logic, in a musical context, is to get an audience.

I also offer services in the form of lessons and websites which also keeps me ticking over.
